Can you do the mole job yourself?

How to Get Rid of Moles Yourself - Poisons and explosives do not have any influence on the mole. For each mole killed, there will be two new ones in existing tunnels. Not to mention that the toxins find their way into the vegetables in the greenhouse. Who wants to eat contaminated vegetables? But why moles are such a problem? These animals are carnivorous and eat small animals in the ground. They don’t eat the roots. Rarely damage the roots because it typically passes around it when digging tunnels. The mole belongs to the protected species list and it is forbidden in some countries to kill it. You cannot use the chemicals that are deadly for the mole, so you have to use those which have the repellent effect. In that case, there are a number of mechanical and chemical measures.

The first step for most procedures is to determine where the mole’s lair is. After that, take the molehill, level it with the ground and close the tunnel. The mole must dig up the tunnels and re-form a molehill that it could move freely. Then it is easy to determine where it is located, so you will have a chance to catch it.

Detia Wuhlmausgas works as repellent in contact with moisture because it separates the gas that chase the moles away. Detia gas (in the form of granules) is a repellent for rodents, based on calcium carbide. The size of the granules is 4 to 7 mm. You have to put 5 gr of product in a mole hole. Close the hole. In contact with moisture, the gas is released, which operates irritating and chase rodents away. The exposure time is 2 to 4 days, and the waiting period in the greenhouses is 1 day after ventilation. In the open air waiting period is 1 day. Before applying Detia Gas, it is necessary to examine the Application Instructions, and in particular pay attention to: mere safety, measures in case of accidental dispersion of the preparation, measures in case of fire, first aid measures, signs of labeling and warnings.

Other repellents which you could use are:
  • crushed glass and balls with nails
  • Products with a disturbing smell (mothballs, carbide, formalin, oil)
  • Commercial agents based on the odor of urine and anal secretions of carnivorous
  • The scent of peppermint and stale oil (needs 1 to 2 pieces of soaked cloth per meter of surface, and the effects last for about one month)
  • Audio-vibrational assets - their effectiveness is different, and devices have to constantly be operational, or else the results are not good
There are a couple of more repellents that you can make it yourself. One of them is- cut the plastic water bottle in half, unscrew the cap and the neck down, and push it into the hole. The wind that blows over the bottle, swirls and creates sounds that are transmitted into the underground corridors, which is irritating for the mole. Another way is to soak the cotton balls with lemon oil and push into the hole. A lemon scent that is pleasant to us, the mole cannot stand.

Tulbaghia violacea or wild garlic is a natural repellent against the moles. The crushed leaves will make the mole in your garden to move away because of the very strong smell that this plant produces. Euphorbia lathyris or caper spurge or paper spurge is another natural repellent. The whole plant is poisonous and the smell of it will scare off the mole. If you want to get rid of the mole, buy a zinc sulfate (ZnSo4) at the pharmacy. Put it into the opening, it will not kill the mole, but it will make it run away from your garden or lawn.

Since the moles do not hear the sound but the vibration of the earth, is very efficient to do something like miniature windmills, make it to spin when the wind blows, stick it to the ground and they will get away every time because it produces "microearthquakes in", it's cheap, but you have to do it yourself a little.

The cat is the natural enemy of the mole and mole can detect a presence of a cat by its feces, so you can cheat the mole and get rid of it by spreading the cat feces on the molehill breathing holes. You can also remove their main source of food, earthworms, with purchasing of agent for destroying worms. Put rose branches across the tunnel. The branches should be slightly longer than the length of the hole section so that the ends are sufficiently driven into the tunnel walls and mole could not move it without getting hurt. Then, the mole will leave that area.

Whichever option you choose to get rid of the mole, you have to take your time and remember, they are smart, but we are smarter.
